Required equipment
| Please note the following equipment requirements: | |
| The basics | Recommended browser: Google Chrome We use BigBlueButton (BBB) as our web conferencing tool. It is based on WebRTC and runs directly in your browser – no additional software is needed. Although all modern browsers support WebRTC, experience has shown that BBB works most reliably across platforms when using Google Chrome. Special note for macOS users: We also recommend Google Chrome on macOS, especially because it allows more flexible screen sharing than Safari. To avoid issues during the hands-on phases, please check during onboarding whether your browser is permitted to share your screen. Go to Apple Menu > System Settings > Security & Privacy > Screen Recording. You will need to quit and restart the browser for any changes to take effect. Two screens or a large display recommended: For the best user experience, we recommend using two screens or a large display, so you can follow our live stream on one side and access the Hardware Lab on the other. To access our Hardware Lab, you will need an RDP client such as the Microsoft Windows App.
|
| Optional | Headset and webcam To avoid echo and feedback, we recommend using a headset. During the hands-on exercises, you may work together with other participants. If you wish, you can turn on your webcam during these phases to make collaboration more personal, dynamic, and productive. |
| Please note the following equipment requirements: | |
| Important | No hands-on phases in recert sessions: Recert sessions provide a compact summary of the most important updates from the past two years. Therefore, there are no hands-on phases and no RDP client is required. |
| Required | Modern browser is sufficient: We use BigBlueButton (BBB) as our web conferencing tool. It is based on WebRTC and runs directly in your browser – no additional software is needed. As there are no group exercises, any modern browser with WebRTC support should be sufficient to join the live session. |
Exam content and procedure
No, this course does not include a certification exam.
However, the content covered in the DSM Fundamentals course is a prerequisite for the DSM Architect certification.
We therefore recommend the Fundamentals course especially for participants who have little or no prior experience with Synology products. It is also an ideal introduction for career changers from related fields (such as video surveillance, electrical trades, etc.) or for apprentices and trainees in the IT sector.
Please note that the DSM Architect certification also requires all content covered in the DSM Fundamentals.
Nevertheless, attending the Fundamentals course is optional. We particularly recommend it for participants who have limited experience with Synology products, career changers, those moving from third‑party solutions, or IT trainees. Take a look at the current Fundamentals curriculum to decide whether you can skip it or not.
This depends on the course and other factors. In most cases, the exam takes between 30 and 45 minutes.
Depending on the course content, SIT certification exams typically last 30 to 45 minutes. There may be variations if you are participating in special formats (e.g. pilot courses, train-the-trainer sessions, etc.).
No. You will have a few days to complete the certification exam.
We will provide further details and explain the exact exam procedure at the end of the session.
No, this is unfortunately not possible (an exception applies to employees of public institutions).
If you made a last-minute booking and were unable to transfer the course fee in time, you may still attend the course – but you will not be able to take the certification exam until we have received your payment. In such cases, we recommend using an instant bank transfer or PayPal. If that is not possible, we will send you the exam password shortly after we receive your payment, and you can complete the exam at a later time.
Recertification is a refresher of the respective Architect certification and is person-specific
For example, to have the DSM Recertification recognised, the participant must hold a valid Synology DSM Architect certification. The Architect certificates are therefore personal and NOT transferable to colleagues within the same company.
Important: wilkon does NOT verify whether the required prerequisites are met. If you are unsure whether you are eligible to participate in the recertification, please contact your Synology representative in advance.
Yes and no – slightly higher exam requirements apply
In terms of content and duration, the recertification exams are equivalent to the regular SIT certifications. However, a slightly higher average score must be achieved. If you are unsure whether you can meet these higher requirements, please contact our support team or register for a regular SIT course instead – this way, no higher exam score will be required.
Additional notes:
- In the webinar, we provide only a concise summary of the course content, highlight important updates, and occasionally discuss selected best practices that may be helpful for experienced Synology partners, but are not necessarily part of the exam.
- However, you will receive the fully updated course materials from the regular SIT course as a download.
- If you are unsure whether you can actually meet the higher exam requirements, we recommend attending a regular course instead.
- Please also note that the fee for the recertification course cannot be credited if you fail the recertification exam and subsequently need to attend a regular SIT course.
If you fail the exam and want to retake it
No, unfortunately that is not possible.
If you're unsure whether you're fully prepared for the exam, or if you'd like to explore certain topics in more depth beforehand, we offer individual 1:1 coaching sessions.
You can find more information here.
You have the option to retake the exam once free of charge.
No worries if it didn’t work out the first time. You will be able to retake the exam by the next day at the latest. To do so, simply open your course again at https://sit-certification.com or refresh the page. Then scroll down within the course – you will find the retake exam there.
You can request a second (and final) retake for a small processing fee – or choose to include an optional 1:1 coaching session.
All exam attempts must be documented and submitted to the manufacturer. For this reason, a second retake is only possible subject to a small processing fee. To support you in the best possible way, we also offer optional 1:1 coaching sessions. In these sessions, we review the key topics again – based on your exam results and specific questions.
You can find more information here:
URL: https://wilkon-academy.com/de/cat/sit-certification-packages
You will need to retake the regular course.
If all three attempts are unsuccessful, a further retake is not possible. In this (very rare) case, you will need to book and attend the regular course again.
Accessing the certificate, SIT badge and manufacturer notification
You can download your certificate immediately after passing the exam at https://sit-certification.com.
To download it, click on Achievements > Certificates in the dark vertical main navigation on the left-hand side.
You can download the badge logo (for email signatures etc.) immediately after passing the exam at https://sit-certification.com.
To download it, go back into the course after passing the exam and download the ZIP package available under SIT Logo.
In this case, please wait until the following day.
This can happen if your exam was submitted automatically when the time ran out at the end. The exam session will be processed automatically overnight. The next day, you will be able to view your result and, if you passed, download your certificate and SIT badge.
No, we take care of that for you.
To ensure that your certification is recognised as part of the Synology Partner Programme, exam results are submitted to Synology on a regular basis. Please note that this process is not done individually for each course date but in batches. As far as we know, Synology updates the Partner Programme records on a quarterly basis.
